What is a birth chart?
A birth chart, also called a natal chart, is a map of the Sun, Moon, planets, zodiac signs, houses, and major angles for the exact moment and location of your birth.
What do I need to calculate my birth chart?
Use your birth date, the most accurate birth time available, and your birth city. The time and location determine your Rising sign, Midheaven, and house placements.
Can I calculate a birth chart without an exact birth time?
Yes. Your planetary signs can still be calculated with an estimated time, but your Rising sign, Midheaven, and houses should be treated as provisional until the time is confirmed.
What are the Sun, Moon, and Rising signs?
The Sun describes your conscious center and vitality, the Moon describes your emotional needs and instincts, and the Rising sign describes your immediate approach to life and establishes the house structure of the chart.
Is this a tropical astrology birth chart?
Yes. This calculator uses the tropical zodiac and Placidus houses for the snapshot. Cosmic Oceans also includes separate Sidereal and True Sky systems for comparing other astronomical frames.
